Natural resource management and development are inextricably linked issues since without access to the natural resources necessary for survival, communities cannot benefit from mainstream development processes. As a result, SARD runs a number of programmes centered on land and water management which create the physical assets and impart the training necessary for improved irrigation facilities in target communities. These interventions enhance agricultural productivity, reduce poverty, ensure food security, and increase bio-diversity. Ultimately, they increase the self-reliance and ensure the balanced management of the environment and ecosystems of the marginalised communities which SARD works with.

Currently, SARD is constructing rain water harvesting structures, anicuts, check dams, and farm ponds, as well as promoting organic manure and improved sustainable agricultural practices throughout its project areas. In addition, SARD works with local governments and Krishi Vigyan Kendras to build up the capacities of local farmers, link them up with marketing schemes, and to train them on how to use new technologies.
